From Dresses to Data: The Story of Infrrd

We sat down with Amit Jnagal, Founder/CEO, to find out more about where Infrrd came from and where it’s headed.
It All Started With Dresses
Before there was Infrrd, I worked on a Natural Language Processing (NLP) engine that sifted through customer comments to help them identify the right shirts for work, dresses for weddings, or golf shoes.
It got me thinking about unstructured data, and what we could and couldn’t extract from it.
The shift from retail into documents was a natural one, even though it at first might not seem like there’s an obvious link -- it’s all data other people think can’t be read, and all-but-impossible business challenges rooted in the technical elements of automation.
The Secret Benefit of This Starting Place
So what does an NLP engine that went through product comments online to see what customers were talking about wearing have in common with Infrrd today? Let me explain.
We started with the NLP engine and added computer vision capabilities, so you could upload a picture of a dress and we would automatically describe it based on the features the engine saw in that and other pictures. And with these analytics, searches on retailers’ e-commerce sites improved.
Infrrd pivoted to financial services and used our understanding of harnessing unstructured content to tackle different business problems. We had built powerful AI capabilities, and this was a great way to use them.
We just had to decide where to focus and what customer problem to solve.
Unstructured Data Is a Persistent, Systematic Challenge
The problem of data that can’t be read has been around for a long time, and so far, there hasn’t been a reliable solution available. People have put up with what was available, although it can recognize the value in only part of their data.
We Love Unstructured Data
I knew from the start that I wanted to work with unstructured data, and selected complex, unstructured documents as Infrrd’s area of expertise because of the impact it could have on businesses and their success.
Having traveled this path has made us more than just a company that extracts data. Rather, we can connect the dots, using images and scope to inform our analysis and give customers the ability to unlock the value in their data.
I Believe Infrrd Will Lead The Future Of Automation
The kind of automation we do will become commonplace in the years to come -- and I think we’re securing a spot as a leader in the space along the way.
Here’s why:
- Our unique perspective - We’re in the business of solving problems, and our ability to imagine the power of unstructured data has led us to build an incredibly useful tool for harnessing it to generate meaningful insights for enterprises.
- The automation impact - We use IDP combined with AI solutions capabilities to help clients reduce operating costs, increase productivity, and redeploy their people to better utilize their skills.
- Accuracy and analysis - With Infrrd’s guidance, enterprises can unlock data that will give them a bigger and more accurate picture of their business, in a fraction of the time it would take humans.
Infrrd’s People Make the Company Great
Beyond technology, we start with good people.
Some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten is about hiring the right people -- that you should take your time and choose wisely. So when I came across great people in my past work, I made a mental note, and when I started this company, I asked them to work with me.
From process to people, Infrrd takes a different approach when it comes to managing variation and delivering accuracy for its customers.
We believe our background gives us an advantage, and that there’s a place for us in this new and rapidly growing Intelligent Document Processing market, which stands to benefit immensely from the way we approach document understanding.
Freedom for a Stronger Organization
We’ve saved our customers money by making their processes more efficient, and are creating more value because of the speed, accuracy, and insights we’ve been able to deliver across different types of documents. Customers like being freed from the manual work of data processing, and benefit from the ability to redirect resources, knowing the solution delivers as promised.
Our roots in retail provide us with a unique perspective on unstructured data, and a broader view on the importance of being able to handle variation.
We see business problems differently.
